Brazil In The Middle Of Political Turmoil

In a few days, the Brazilian Federal Senate will be called to decide on the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff, accused of infringing fiscal laws and manipulating the Government budget.

The lower house has already cast its vote, with its majority (367 vs 137, plus 2 abstentions) in favour of the impeachment, and it is very likely that the upper house, where only 41 out 81 votes in favour are required, will give its green light to initiate the impeachment procedure.

In this case, Ms. Rousseff would be suspended from her duties for a period up to 180 days, during which the Federal Senate will have to rule on the outcome of the proceeding.
